Re: About Subtitles in MPC
srt is normal text-based subtitles format. Only has basic formatting options such as bold and italic.
idx/sub (vobsub) is an image based format. Comes from DVD.
idx/rar is the same, but just compressed with RAR.
pgs is also similar, but comes from Bluray.
smi and sub are other (less common) text-based formats. Similar to srt.
ssa/ass are advanced text based subtitle format. Has lots of functions for manipulating the text to give custom font, size, color, placement, and even movement.

MPC supports all of these formats. There is no "best". It depends on your needs. In most cases SRT provides sufficient functionality.
