Mkv+MPC+VsFilter(DirectVobSub)+LAV: Video show black screen when subs are active
I am having some problem only in specific video, that when subs are active video show only black screen, configurations in MPC:
DirectShow: System default
RealMedia: VMR 9(renderless)
QuickTime: VMR 9(renderless)
Is there any way to fix?
If need more information please tell me.
Edit: Fixed after update version 12.2.2 to 12.2.6, maybe because Media Player Classic return to default, so it changed DirectShow: System Default to Video Renderer Enhanced

System Default equals VMR-7, which is an old renderer. That is for old systems with Windows XP.
However, things should work with all renderers. Can you give me details for one of the files that gave the problem? Then I can download the same file and try to reproduce the problem.

It's an anime that can be found here:

At the same time that show subs, screen goes completely black, but return normal if subs dissapear, but return to black when subs appears. Works perfectly if sub is disabled.

Thanks. I can reproduce it. It only happens with VSFilter and PGS subtitles. I will see if this can be fixed.
Things should work fine if you use the internal subtitle renderer of MPC, in combination with a compatible video renderer.

I realize this is an older thread but has there been any progress with this? I have the exact problem in win7 WMC (which is 64bit) and 64bit WMP, however 32bit WMP plays normally. I'm using mkv with embedded PGS subtitles. I looked through the tweak tool setting to see if the 32bit and 64bit sides had any discrepancies but they match as much as their corresponding entries do.

Strange that is only happens with 64bit player. Can you test if same problem happen with GraphStudioNext tool?
If one of the problematic files is available as a torrent or newsgroup download, could you give a link? Then I can test it here.

Re: Mkv+MPC+VsFilter(DirectVobSub)+LAV: Video show black screen when subs are active
Hi, thanks for the reply. It does the same thing in GraphStudioNext - full black screen with visible subtitle when active. The files are MKV`s I made myself with Handbrake so no link unfortunately. I got tired of tediously correcting OCR software generated .srt files so I started just embedding the PGS files instead.
An interesting observation I made: I learned that WMC actually uses WMP for it's rendering so I opened task manager to confirm this. It does in fact run WMP but it uses the 32bit version! So now I'm even more baffled.

WMC does not use WMP for playback. The process that you are seeing in the task manager is service that handles the media library and video streaming to other devices.
One thing that you could try is the mod16 option in VSFilter.

I only saw a mod32 fix which I assumed you meant. Made no difference. I'm going to keep making files this way because I like the results. I'll just use a 32bit player to view them until I figure it out. Thanks for your time and the help.
