No more ffdshow DXVA ?
Hello,
I recently cleaned my K-Lite Codec pack setup (uninstalled nearly a year old version, and installed the last one).
And to my demise, it seems like ffdshow-DXVA is not in the K-Lite Codec Pack (whatever edition) anymore.
Did I screw up the installation ? Do I have to install it manually from somewhere else ? Why was it removed ?
Thanks for reading me, and more thanks for anyone who will answer.

Re: No more ffdshow DXVA ?
Development of ffdshow has stopped long ago and the DXVA decoder has several flaws. So it is better to not use it.
I assume you are still using Windows XP? Then you can use the MPC DXVA decoder instead. That works a bit better. If you need subtitles, then use Media Player Classic instead of WMP.

Yeah I know about the ffdshow-tryouts, but I don't know.... I still prefer it to LAV, there's so much options to mess with, and it becomes handy sometimes.... And I've got old programs linking directly to ffdshows, so it was cool to have at least ffdshow-dxva for those. But it's nitpicking.
I'll guess I'll just have to go with the flow and move on to LAV + ffdshow processor for those extra options (even if it's overkill for how much little I use those said options)
Also *ouch*, windows xp, WMP .... please
But yeah even if development has stoped, IIRC it was included in previous versions of the k-lite-codec pack full. So yeah .... I'm just surprised to see this removed.

Re: No more ffdshow DXVA ?
ffdshow DXVA doesn't have the options that the normal ffdshow decoder has. So when using that you don't really have those options either.
Which old programs need ffdshow?

Re: No more ffdshow DXVA ?
True ffdshow-dxva was pretty much bare bone.
For instance, some old lindbergh arcade games (beatmania arcade) used ffdshow, and IIRC LAV was not working well with those at the time. Maybe LAV is now compatible with it ... can't really test it right now, my arcade is hundreds kilometers away from me (vacations).
But yeah, you decided to pull the plug on ffdshow-dxva, I get that, no problem. I'll still be able to use ffdshow in combo with LAV for those rare occasions where I need to boost luminosity, remove audio noises, etc.
Thanks for info.

Re: No more ffdshow DXVA ?
There is a good chance those games now also work with LAV. If not, look for the video files in the game installation folder and use MediaInfo to check which video format it uses. Then you can enable that specific format in ffdshow.
