Windows 10 Empty Windows 10

Post by Meander Fri Oct 23, 2015 1:26 pm

I have video files where the thumbnails are not showing a preview. Seems to be avi files, even though my Media Preview is set up to recognise them. Only happens on my laptop which is Windows 10. My PC is vista and they show on there.

Uninstall Media Preview and use Icaros instead. Icaros is included with the codec pack. So re-installing the codec pack after uninstall Media Preview should do the trick.

Windows 10 Empty Icaros

Post by Meander Fri Oct 23, 2015 5:35 pm

I uninstlalled Media Preview and installed Icaros. Nothing seems to have changed. I tried the de-activate and then activate but nothing changed.
I have noticed that across some folders it is avi. MP4 and wmv not showing, but they are in other folders

Empty the thumbnail cache and then reboot.

That has worked for the most part. Annoyingly in a couple of folders certain MP4 & wmv have not changed

I have solved most of the leftovers. In properties under the General header there was a security option that needed to be unblocked. Unfortunately there are still a few left that didn't have that option. So they will still not show. Still trying different options.

The latest version of Icaros is 3.0.0 RC2. I mention it because some sites still list 2.3.0.

I don't have any problems here with WMV and MP4. There is a know bug in case of certain FLV files, which should be fixed in a future version.

I have installed the latest version of Icaros but still the few are still not showing the preview. Thinking of re-installing Media Preview

Could you upload one MP4 and one WMV file for me that doesn't work? Or tell me where you downloaded them.

If I can reproduce the problem with those files, then I can get it fixed by the developers.

Can I go back to the first post. These files are in folders held on an external drive. When loaded onto my PC (vista ) they all show the preview. When loaded onto the Laptop (windows 10 ) the stubborn few will not show. I do not have Icaros downloaded on my PC. So I do not think that is the answer.

Do the thumbnails work if you copy those files to the internal harddrive?

Go to Explorer settings and enable display of hidden and system files. Check if those folders on the external drive contain a file called "Thumbs.db" and delete it.

Finally resolved my problem. Re-installed Media Preview on my laptop. One of the options on their toolbar is Testing & Cache. You simply drag the problem thumbnail from your folder and place it over the target on this page. Immediately corrected. Hallelujah!
