Windows XP pro SP1 (2002): play MP4 vids
Hi,
I was wondering if somebody could help me out with this quite specific problem. At work I cannot but use an old laptop XP Pro SP1. I need it to play movies, especially MP4 and the new type WMV.
I tried to install the highest version of the K-lite codecpack. The machine then asked for DirectX 9.0c. I am unable to install DirectX 9.0c, I get an unsurpassable error-message.
Downgrading K-litepack does not help, MPC cannot render the MP4 and WMV that I offer.
Question: is there a more tailored way to play MP4 files on this OS without the need to install the entire pack? The same question goes for WMV (the new, enhanced type).
Kindest regards, xp_play

hi admin,
yes, thanks. So I found out sadly enough.
But any solutions for playing MP4 nevertheless?

Updating Windows Xp would of course be best.
You can try this old MP4 splitter:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli2/files/DirectShow%20Filters/
To install use regsvr32 mp4splitter.ax
For decoding try ffdshow:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

thanks admin. Will try to install these packs.
Updating would be great, but it is a company machine and they won't update it anymore (nor will they provide me with a decent machine :-) )
