K-Lite Codec Pack Standard/Full - 11.2.x issue on with nVidia CUVID - Windows 8.1 x64 (fully patched)
Machine Parameters:
Intel HD Graphics 4600 = Latest driver, 10.18.14.4222, at time of writing.
nVidia GTX970M = Latest driver, 9.18.13.5306 (aka 353.06), at time of writing.
Problem:
Set Media player Classic as the default player for all file types.
Set nVidia chipset to accelerate all.
Opening AVI works normally.
Opening MOV, MKV, MP4, WMV all hangs MPC and needs to be killed via Task Manager.
Workaround:
Reverting back to 11.1.x Standard or Full restores functionality of all video types on nVidia.
Note:
Intel acceleration is not affected but also not in scope of the feedback reported here.

Does DXVA2 work? That is the preferred and recommended method.
Try 11.2.3. CUVID is working here with same driver version.

Admin, thanks for the assistance.
I don't usually install the interim updates so tested 11.2.0 FULL and set DXVA2 native as the default and everything works fine. It also recognised the H/W capability for HEVC (which was my main reason for using CUVID) so that's also a bonus.
Thanks again.

Be aware that both your GPUs only support partial/hybrid acceleration of HEVC. They don't have a fixed function decoder unit like they have for H.264. Instead they use more generic parts of the GPU to assist in the decoding process. So both CPU and GPU usage will be higher than with H.264.
