AVID DNxHR Playback - No chance?

Trying to play intermediate video (Avid DNxHR Codec\ MOV container)... Sound is playing. Video is not.

It should be possible to add support for that format, as the underlying decoding library already supports it.

Codec is new one (March 2015) and uses QT libraries

Sample (2 sec) hasn´t audio channel.

I thought it was DNxHD. For new formats like this it takes a while before a decoder is available. Once it is supported by FFmpeg, it will be playable with the codec pack.

Quicktime Player plays DNxHR video (but it has very poor perfomance for workflow). Also I have free codec pack from AVID (With DNxHR codec), but it seems like it installs just QT version.

The codec pack does not use any commercial stuff. Just free and open-source codecs.

i doubt that avid will push this decoders to the public. But maybe sometimes...

It does not depend on Avid. The FFmpeg project writes its own decoders. They use format specifications when available, and if not, use reverse engineering. It is just a matter of time.

I found the solution. When i install QTAlternative 3.2.2 WITH Media Player Classic (Version 6.4.9.1 Revision 107) integrated in installation pack... It plays new Avid DNxHR video.
But new version MPC doesnt! Where is a key?

QT Lite is a bit less ancient than QTA. But better is to use regular QuickTime.

To use QuickTime in MPC-HC:
1) You must use the 32-bit version (because QuickTime is also 32-bit). Do an Advanced/Expert install of the codec pack. Then you can select 32-bit MPC-HC. The pack otherwise uses the 64-bit by default.
2) MPC-HC Options > Player > Formats > QuickTime Movie > change DirectShow to QuickTime

Partial support for this format was added to FFmpeg project today. A future version of the codec pack should be able to play the file.
