file freezing for a few seconds when opening
a while back l mentioned l had an issue opening mainly mkv file types mostly containing subtitles.. l eventually sorted that issue with the latest version of CCCP which had completely fixed my issues with MPC-HC (media player classic) however lm finding that while things seem to be working great with MPC-HC that WMP (windows media player) still suffers from a few second freeze.
the latest CCCP that worked for me uses LAV, Halli and vsfilter and l installed ffdshow separately which has allowed me to play without any type of freezes though my favourite media player, however all files are defaulted to WMP because l usually always have files queued up in MPC-HC and any files l do open through WMP are mainly just to seek through or when l dont want to mess up the play lists.
suffice to say l really wish l could fix that annoyance.

CCCP isn't frequently updated. K-Lite also offers more options (in the larger versions), so you don't need to install additional things separately. Full version contains Haali and ffdshow, in addition to LAV Filters (which it uses by default). You could try if using Haali splitter for Matroska makes any difference. You should not really need ffdshow anymore.
Regading the freezing. How many seconds? Does it only happens once after each reboot, or all the time? Do all those files have subtitles? Do they all contain embedded fonts? You can check that with MediaInfo.

l agree with the update part but the version l using worked fine until l came across one set of 10bit files it didnt like, the only minor annoyance was having to install ffdshow again because it uninstalled when l updated however it got me back 5.1 sound (we;; the ability to spread sound to all speakers).
the issue originally affected all video players, and would last a few seconds on every player but since updating the main thing l noticed was that LAV filters also seem to load and since l started using the updated pack lve had no freezes whatsoever with media player classic (latest HC version) however it seems windows media player has retained the issue, tho l noticed it affected an mp4 or two, tho the freeze was shorter than before, hardly noticeable unless you consider it seems to happen more often with WMP, that said l mainly use MPC-HC for watching WMP is for browsing when l dont want to mess up a playlist.

Re: file freezing for a few seconds when opening
WMP uses Microsoft's own H.264 video decoder by default, and CCCP does not provide options to change that. The problem could be related to that decoder, since it doesn't happen with MPC-HC. Possibly a graphics driver issue with initializing hardware acceleration.
If you use K-Lite then WMP will be tweaked to use the LAV Video decoder when playing MKV files. For MP4 files an additional manual tweak is needed (Codec Tweak Tool > Media Foundation > disable for .mp4).
