MPC-HC Can't Open Video File Empty MPC-HC Can't Open Video File

Post by Piero Wed Mar 04, 2015 4:06 am

Hi, i've been using MPC for a long time without any problems until today. I have installed the newest version of the K-Lite Codec Packs v11.0.0, and like i'm saying playing any kind of formats (MKV, AVI, MPEG-4, etc...) without an error. The thing is that MPC isn't showing me any code error, it just get stuck while opening a video file like the picture shows. Finally i had to download VLC player to see the movie. I really hope you can help me!!!

Do you perhaps have AVG virus scanner? That has been giving troubles with MPC-HC lately. It can be solved by adding MPC-HC to the exclusion list in AVG.

You could also try changing the video renderer in MPC-HC.
Options > Playback > Output > VMR-7 (windowed)
If that solves the problem, it means something is wrong with your graphics driver.

If the AVG change solved the problem, then you don't necessarily need to do anything with the drivers.

I don't use AVG i have installed AdvancedSystem Care.
I only change what you said in my MPC, Options > Playback > Output > VMR-7 (windowed).
That works and i can play any movie now..... but with the driver problems like you said.

In that case try updating the Intel driver.

Did you perhaps configure MPC-HC to use the NVIDIA GPU? I recommend letting it use the integrated GPU. You can check by right-clicking on mpc-hc64.exe. There should be a menu entry to select the desired GPU.

Video playback should theoretically also work when using the NVIDIA GPU on Optimus systems, and it did in the past, however lately the NVIDIA driver seem to very buggy in that regard and many people are having troubles with it.
