Codec update, but can't play any files in WMP
OK, maybe I'm doing this wrong... but I've been using K-Lite for years. All of a sudden, after proper uninstall of the old, reinstall of the new, and update, I get "Windows Media Player has stopped working" after I try to open .mp4, .webm and OGG files.
I've cleared every cache I can think of (CCleaner Free v5.00.5050 64-bit), deleted unused registry objects, defragged, hard booted, "reset to recommended settings", all for naught.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Codec update, but can't play any files in WMP
I see a couple of unneeded codecs in that list. Although, those are not the cause of your problem. They were probably installed by a video convertor called Super? You may want to uninstall that if you don't use it anymore. A better alternative would be a converter called Handbrake.
Can you test if playback works correctly in the GraphStudioNext tool that is included with the pack? Then we know of the problem is specific to WMP or not.

Re: Codec update, but can't play any files in WMP
Yes, I did use SUPER years ago, but when it went to malware (added toolbars to my browser) I tossed it. Took a while to get rid of it all.
I'll test GraphStudioNext and see what happens.

Re: Codec update, but can't play any files in WMP
GraphStudioNext 32-Bit plays ogg files, flv, mp4, and webm. GSN 64-bit plays these files as well.
OK, this is weird. After a reboot, now WMP is playing them OK. Man, this is a touchy file player!
I might just set GSN as my default player and not bother with this foolishness.
Microsoft is so irritating! Windows players ONLY want to play MS file formats, Flash video and a few Apple things. "Open source" is a dirty phrase for them.
Now, to get my VLC sorted out. It doesn't want to download YouTube any more. Another forum, another thread...
Thanks for helping.

Re: Codec update, but can't play any files in WMP
By the way, how can I remove the SUPER codecs (and the RealPlayer junk as well)? If I don't need them, I'd rather not have them clogging up my hard drive.
I had to go through the registry and force delete RealPlayer Cloud, because it wouldn't go away after the uninstall.
edit: I'll give Handbrake a try. Thanks for the suggestion. I have xrecode II for my audio files, and I was looking for something to replace SUPER.
When it was being updated and maintained, SUPER worked OK. Now it's garbage.

Re: Codec update, but can't play any files in WMP
Maybe yesterdays updates for Windows were the cause of the temporary problems. Restarting Windows is always a good thing to try in case of problems
GSN is mostly a testing tool. It is not really a player for daily use. If you want a good reliable player, then try MPC-HC, which is included with the pack. It is the favorite player of many people.
To clean up those obsolete codecs:
1) Codec Tweak Tool > Codec and Filter management > DirectShow (x86) > Disable all third party stuff. You should see entries that match the codecs from your list (Dirac/APE, etc). This will unregister those filters (remove them from the Registry).
2) Delete those codecs from the list above. The ones in the syswow64 folder. The only one you should keep is that PlayReady one.
3) Codec Tweak Tool > Fixes. This can remove any left-over stuff from the Registry.
