Media Player Classic Crashes Empty Media Player Classic Crashes

Post by mizur Thu Dec 04, 2014 5:26 am

With updates 10.8.6 and 10.8.7 Media Player Classic crashes whenever I try to scan forward a file using the slider, this happens with MKV files.

It happens with either the x86 and 64 bit versions.

I rollback to version 10.8.5 and the problem disappears.

I use windows 8.1, it's an almost fresh install.

Previous versions of MPC have never had this problem.

I have tried the update in both my computers running same OS and the problem occurs in both.

Graphics Card in both machines are AMD Rampage HD series, with latest drivers. Options disabled as recommended on your web site.

I'm sorry to have not memorized the actual pop up error message, and I'm not going to reinstall versions 6 or 7 just to read it, but it was a small pop up window that says something in the line of "MPC-HC crashed or failed" or something like that.

I could not find any previous complaints, please could you help me?

Thanks

Works fine on me Windows 7 64bit same with the previous version no crashes when playing 8bit mkv, 10bit mkv with resolutions ranging from 720p to 1080p.

Maybe it's a bug only on Windows 8.1.

EDIT: My settings MPC-HC (32bit) + LAV Filters + madVR (High Settings) + Xy-Subfilter + ReClock

Did it also occur if you clicked on the seekbar instead of dragging the slider?
Was hardware acceleration enabled?

My MPC 64-bit on version 10.8.7 crashes a few times today after playing video files.
Didn't notice it on 10.8.6 though.

On Windows 7 64-bit.

ADMIN,

Yes, it also happens while clicking the seek bar, in fact that was the most common crash.

This afternoon I will reinstall version 7 and take a capture of the crash message.

Thanks for any assistance.

The crash message does not contain any useful info, so there is no point in making a screenshot.

A bug has been identified in recent version of LAV Filters, that is responsible for these crashes. A fix should hopefully be available soon.

Until then you can uncheck LAV Filters in the update pack, and update just the rest of the components.

Thanks so much, and hope for a soon fix.

One last question, are updates incremental?

Or could I update version .5 directly to version .7 without installing version .6?

The updates are cumulative. So yes, you only need the last one.

Please test this new version of LAV Filters:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/0s9j5f

If the crashes still happen with that version, then could you guys please give me some filenames of files that are crashing? Then I will download the same files and try to reproduce the problem.

Sorry to say it still crashes with the LAV filters you sent me.

I downloaded them, unzipped them, and replace the folders.

Then I played the file, clicked on the slider to fast forward...  and it crashed...

The file I'm using for testing is:

Marvels.Agents.of.S.H.I.E.L.D.S02E09.720p.HDTV.x264-KILLERS.mkv

Good news. Another bug was fixed just moments ago. A new version should be available soon.

The crash that was fixed occurred only when bitstreaming audio. I assume you also had bitstreaming enabled?
