The new version brings no relevant benefits. The current version works fine and is also open-source.
Your response is defensive and unhelpful
Is the new version not open source? Is it best practice to retain obsolete software as part of a bundle.
This causes me to question the integrity of your entire offering and to begin seeking alternatives.

Re: \Tools\SetACL Old Version Bundled - Recommend You Update
Being old does not suddenly make software obsolete. I don't judge software quality by meaningless parameters such as version or age, I judge them based on whether it correctly does what it is supposed to do. The newest version of a software product is not necessarily the best. Development has ups and downs and new functionality often comes paired with regressions in existing functionality, which require additional maintenance releases to fix.
In case of SetACL there surely have been improvements, but looking at the changelog none of those are really relevant to the tiny fraction of functionality that is used by the codec pack. So there is no pressing need for updating it, and neither is there any functional reason for not updating. However, since the new version has a more strict license, which requires getting a redistribution license, using the old version is preferable.
You can just replace the files if it makes you feel better, but there won't be any change in functional behavior of the codec pack.
I don't really care what software you use. But looking for an alternative would be a pointless exercise, since when it comes to the actual codecs, this pack is more up-to-date then any other.
