MPC-HC freezes on opening file

Hi.

I've installed the latest K-Lite Codec Pack on a brand-new computer with Windows 8.1, but whenever I try to open a file, the player freezes on "Opening...". I haven't tried anything yet, apart from using both x86 and x64 versions of MPC-HC to no avail.

Any thoughts on the matter?

I suspect this is caused by your current graphics driver. Updating the driver should solve it.

As a temporary workaround you could change the video renderer:
MPC-HC options > Playback > Output > system default (= VMR-7)

Strange thing: after shutting down entirely the computer and restarting it, there were no issues even with the default settings. Maybe it has to do with something like hibernation, I really don't know.
