About x64 MPC
i want to ask about new update today
Version 10.6.5 Mega ~ 33.8 MB ~ August 6th 2014
Changelog:
right now im using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate ORI
my question :
1. im using old klite codec pack 10.6.3, do i need to uninstall the older one before im using 10.6.5 ??
or i just can install the new one without uninstall the older one ?
2. how do we know in our computer / laptop that the x64 MPC has been installed ?
is there any sign that show our mpc has been x64 ?
3. if we use x64 windows, better using x32 or x64 mpc ? and what's the major difference between the players ??
casue in some forum , they say better using x32 to not have future problem in play video
Thanks,
admin

Changelog:
- Added x64 version of MPC-HC
- The x64 version of MPC-HC has (slightly) better performance, while the (default) x86 version provides better compatibility (for example with madVR).

Re: About x64 MPC
1) The installer informs you when it is needed to uninstall first. In this case a fresh install is needed because there have been some changes that require that. But most of the time you can just install on top of an existing installation. The installer can uninstall the old version automatically. So you don't need to worry about anything. Just run the installer and everything will be done for you.
2) It currently installs both versions of MPC-HC by default, so people have a chance to try both. During installation you can choose for which version you want to create file associations (and thus which one becomes the default). Once installed you can always open a file using the other version if desired. Simply right-click on a file in Explorer, in the "Open With" menu you can find an entry for both versions of MPC-HC.
3) If you want to use madVR as video renderer, then you must use the 32-bit version. If you use the default video renderer, then both versions will work. The x64 version can play practically everything. It will only fail on formats for which only 32-bit codecs are available. It is highly unlikely that you have such files. And if you do happen to encounted some ancient file that was created with an unsupported codecs, then you can always use the 32-bit version through the "Open With" menu.

The installer will only offer to install x64 MPC-HC only if you have DirectX drivers. I did not install DirectX on my system and during my install process, the x64 MPC-HC check box is greyed-out.

Re: About x64 MPC
Correct. That is mentioned in the help file, along with a link to the DirectX updater.
Most people will already have the required DirectX files installed, because those files are also needed by most games.

Re: About x64 MPC
Is there a quality difference between the default video renderer and madVR? I've always used madVR but would love to get the improved performance from the 64-bit MPC-HC. Re: About x64 MPC
madVR gives better quality. But at default settings it is not a huge difference. You need to customize the settings to get the best results, but most advanced settings require a powerful graphics card. The performance difference is less than 10% in most cases, so unless you are having performance related issues, going for quality might be the best choice.
You can install both versions of MPC-HC and compare performance and quality. Then pick the one you prefer as the default player.

Re: About x64 MPC
MPC-HC 64 bit that goes with k-lite (checked the newest version) does not have media info properties. Is it as it should or is it a bug?

Only 32-bit MediaInfo DLL is included.
You can get MediaInfo details by right-clicking on a file in Explorer.

Re: About x64 MPC
It is explained in great detail in the installer help and the greyed out option refers to that help.
