Closed Captioning in MPEG & TS files Empty Closed Captioning in MPEG & TS files

Hi there,

I really like K-Lite Mega, and the other day, I tried to play a TS file which contains EIA-608/708 North America closed captioning and can't get it to display.  The Subtitle menu item is greyed out.  I was able to play it using latest VLC Player.  Do you have the necessary filters to decode Closed Captioning data? Is there a setting I must configure?  Here's a MediaInfo of a sample TS file I captured using a Huappauge 2250 card.

Such subtitles are embedded in the video data. The video decoder must support extraction of this data. The LAV Video decoder does not support it. You could try enabling MPEG-2 in ffdshow. Or perhaps even use the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video decoder.

Can you provide a sample file? Then I can do these tests and maybe find a solution.

A short Closed-Captions .TS file captured using latest WinTV is at:

It plays fine using VLC 2.1.4 (64-bit)...

I have done some tests and I wasn't able to get the closed captions to display in any DirectShow players. You will have to continue to use VLC for these type of files.

Is WinTV able to display the subs? If so, using the filters from WinTV in MPC-HC might be a solution.

Yes, WinTV also plays the closed captioned *.TS files, PERFECTLY... even more accurate than VLC...

Do you have the instructions to integrate WinTV's closed captioning filters into K-Lite Mega?

Thanks...

Generate a list of all installed DirectShow filters:
Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log

Check if that list contains any filters from WinTV or Hauppauge.

You can set a filter as preferred in MPC-HC:
options > external filters
