Problem with display of mp4 videos
Hello, I was Googling about the problem I faced and got directed here, so hopefully you guys can help! There's something wrong with MPC when it plays back mp4 videos. Not sure how to describe it as the colours become weird and all, so here's an image:
Opening the videos cause my computer to lag as well. Anyway, the above video should look like this:
Some videos (completely random) are much worse:
It seems to only be mp4 videos as I tried it with wmv and mov files, and the only problem was that they started lagging after awhile. Also, some mp4 files (again, completely random) started off looking fine, but after awhile all became weirdly coloured. I've tried playing the mp4 videos with other different players, and Windows Media Player, Photos (Windows 8 app) have the same problems. QuickTime and VLC are fine. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the videos since they play perfectly fine on my Chrome browser, on YouTube, and other computers.
I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro on my laptop which uses Intel(R) HD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce 310M. My MPC uses the Intel graphics processor by default, but the problem still exists when I set it to use the NVIDIA one. I've tried using a different DirectShow Video renderer for MPC as mentioned in the FAQ, but it didn't change a thing.
Is there a problem with my laptop or something? Tech noob here, so forgive me if I've trouble understanding some of your replies >< Thanks!

Re: Problem with display of mp4 videos
Disable Hardware Acceleration.
MPC menu > Play > Filters > LAV Video
Updating both the Intel and NVidia graphics driver should help, as this is a driver bug.

Re: Problem with display of mp4 videos
At risk of sounding really stupid, but I don't seem to have that LAV Video option under Filters?
Also, on the Intel website, I ran the Automatically identify and find drivers test, and got this response:
Product Detected Intel(R) HD Graphics
Current Driver Installed 8.15.10.2900
An Intel device was detected but your operating system is not supported by this utility.
Here are the details of my computer:
My NVidia graphics driver is up to date, but when I set it as the graphics processor for MPC and play mp4 videos with it, the same problem still exists ):

Re: Problem with display of mp4 videos
It seems that the codecs are no longer correctly installed. Uninstall the codec pack and any other codecs that you may have installed. Then install the latest version version of the codec pack (10.4.0).
Re: Problem with display of mp4 videos
Oh yes you're right, the option appeared after I reinstalled the codecs. I've disabled hardware acceleration and now my videos can play! Thanks so much for your help! (:
