Windows xp blue screen FATAL ERROR crash latest update packs

hi

iam a great fan of the codec pack, but have encountered alot of problems with latest updates version K-Lite Codec Pack 10.0.5 is the last version that does not crash my windows xp sp2 machine to a blue screen of death when playing auy type of dvd or a mkv file creates this screen really annoying as the whole machine has to be restarted, there must be a bug in the last 2 version of the update pack 10.0.9 and 10.0.8 both seem to be the problem, something has changed in these 2 version to cause this, because when i downgrade i dont get the blue screen i have taken a photo of the problem, maybe something has changed with these versions mpc that needs sp3 installed, its a big mistake to make upgrade to sp3 just to view video i think

Can you select only one component at a time when installing the update and test which one of the components causes your problem?

Can you post this log? Then I can see your hardware details and installed codecs.
Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log

I don't have any XPSP2 system to test on. I had no issues on a XPSP3 system.

Tried it on a XPSP2 system. No issues either.

i can do a log will post it later, its a older laptop, but works fine with klite untill i use them update packs.

i unistalled lkite and reinstalled it and unchecked MPC-HC to version 1.7.0.44 box and left the others ticked and blue screen does not appear again, so something in the MPC-HC version in update packs version 10.0.9 and 10.0.8 is the cause, iam sure of it, never had this problem ever before with klite codec pack.

Here is an archive with a few versions of MPC-HC that came in between the ones included in 10.0.5 and 10.0.8. Please test them.

If #1 gives the problem, then test #4. If #4 works, then also test #5. These contain a potential fix.
If #1 works, then test #2 and #3.
If #3 is the first one that gives the problem, then you don't need to test #4 and #5.

i have tested as you said version 1 and 2 work fine, but when i use folder 3 with version number 1.7.0.21 i get blue screen right away, seem to be that version that brings out the bug on my machine, hope this has helped maybe a new pack containing a fix will be released which removes what ever has been changed to cause this annoying problem.

If that one also doesn't work, then I am afraid you'll have to update to SP3. That is something I would recommend doing anyway, because your outdated system is full of security holes.

that version works, i will not update to sp3 because there is no need, and too make people update service packs too play videos is unreasonable to say the least, and a hassle.

Alot of people still have sp2 and if it aint broke dont fix it, i have found sp3 to be very buggy and sp2 actually better and faster than it. i never had a virus or spyware ever on this machine sp2 never let me down yet and not messing with something that works fine, too update for a few updates i dont want or need. If in future a change is made you need sp3 i will just have to use a older version of klite, version 9.9.5 standard i find still works pretty well on xp machines, from testing my self.

If that one works, then the problem does not seems to be related to the switch from Visual Studio 2010 to 2012 as compiler. So that is somewhat good news.

All MPC-HC versions worked well on the XPSP2 test system I tried them on. So perhaps some other software on your computer is related to the problem. Do you have any programs running in the background that hook into Windows functions? For example virusscanner, firewall, and other security apps?

i have a brand new clean install of windows with no anti virus or firewall

There are 24 changes between the last two versions you tested. I am not sure yet which one could be responsible. If you don't mind running more tests, I could make a few more test builds with individual changes reverted.

sorry for late response, i have found folders numbers 1, 4, 6.

all crash to blue screen, have you got auy idea yet waht cause this folders 2 3 and 5 work great.

so annoying have to restart pc everytime it crashing, i hope the probelm is found and dealt with.

Those results are a bit unexpected. The build are incremental, 1 being oldest, and 6 being newest. So it appears the problem is not directly tied to a specific change in MPC-HC code, but rather is more random.

Keep using number 5 for a while and report back if continues to work properly.

can you pls update on this problem has it been found and fixed in this latest version or not, i first made this thread on the 10th october, and still have no firm answer from you what is giong with this problem.

The problem has not been found. The developers of MPC-HC need a way to reproduce the problem or a crash dump. Otherwise they can't fix it.

tried the latest version and the update pack just released, both crash my system right away, its stupid that the MPC Developer have screwed with something and does even know what they have done to cause my machine to crash right away to blue screen, staying with a older version for now.

If it thing is not broken DONT FIX IT. I now cannot update beyond 10.0.8 when this bug they intrduced was released, they dont even know them selfs what causes this.

It is not really the fault of MPC-HC. I found 4 reports of the same problem on the MPC-HC bug tracker that date back up to 3 years ago. Similarity between all reports is that all are still using XP SP2. I also noticed that reports that included hardware details mentioned AMD processors and ATI graphics.
