no video playing .mov file in windows movie maker with klite codec pack v10 installed

Trying to run .mov file (uploaded from Iphone) in windows movie maker (Vista operating systm). Loaded klite codec pack v10. FFDshow enabled. Audio plays fine. Video does not (black screen), WMM shows file properties to be an audio file only.

Does the file play properly with Windows Media Player?

WMM sometimes fails to open files even when the correct codecs are installed. It is a very limited program. One solution is to convert the file to WMV first.

Updating your graphics driver may fix the problem if your current driver is very old. Movie Maker has compatibility issues with older drivers.

For some people with similar problems it helped to switch to an older version version of Movie Maker.

You could try removing the 2012 version and installing the 2011 version:

Others have had success after uninstalling this Windows update:

In Start Menu, type Windows Update and open it.
Click "View update history" on the left.
Click the "Installed updates" link near the top.
In the search box (Search Installed Updates in upper right), type KB2670838
If the results are filtered to one entry with that KB number, right-click it and select Uninstall.
Restart your computer then run Movie Maker again and check if the issue still occurs.

The last two suggestions are probably just workaround for compatibility issues with the graphics driver. So updating your driver is definitely the first thing you should try.
