I have downloaded that exact same video and it plays correctly here. Works with both LAV Video decoder (default) and ffdshow.

Are you perhaps using a different video decoder? Using hardware acceleration could also be the cause of the problem.

I only have the K Lite Codec Pack install. LAV Video is used to decode other videos.

How do i ensure that LAV Decoder is the prefer decoder for 4k Video? Using LAV decoder with Nvidia Cuvid as the hardware acceleration tool.

Both players use LAV here for this video with default settings.

You can see which decoder MPC-HC uses by looking at "Play > Filters" in its menu.

Two things you could try:

1) Disable Media Foundation for .mp4
2) Select LAV as preferred decoder for H.264. If that works it means you got another decoder installed that was interfering. If you post a list (Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log) then I can help you identify that decoder and help remove it. After that you could set the preferred decoder back to "Use Merit", which is required for subtitle functionality.

The stuff from Sopcast should not be a problem, since their merits are lower than the codecs from the pack. I see no problems in the list that could be responsible for your problem.

I suggest that you use a different player instead. It should play with MPC-HC.

The majority of playback, editing work is still being finished in 1080p. In most cases, we still need to downscale most of the Ultra HD 4K to 1080p or 2K via a third party program properly.
