Problem with lav splitter
i just updated to klite 9.9.0 from 9.7.5, then i began to have problems with some games i got install, when the game loaded a video the game freeze, looking around in google i found that from disabling the video format on the lav splitter menu fix this problem.
My question is, if there another way to solve this without disabling this format. (the format in question is "mpeg" ).

Re: Problem with lav splitter
If you can give me the name of the .exe that launches the game, then it can be blacklisted in the splitter. That should solve the problem (for this specific game).
Please also try to find the relevant video file in the game installation folder and upload it for me. Then maybe the splitter can be fixed to handle that file better.

Re: Problem with lav splitter
I found a tool that should allow extracting that big file. Then you should be able to get the individual video files.

Re: Problem with lav splitter
Thanks. I am not able to make it freeze while playing, so maybe it is already solved in latest LAV Splitter. But the game will be blacklisted anyway just to be sure to problem goes away.
Re: Problem with lav splitter
I've once experienced the same problem after I reinstalled my OS and K-Lite 9.9.0.Admin wrote:Thanks. I am not able to make it freeze while playing, so maybe it is already solved in latest LAV Splitter. But the game will be blacklisted anyway just to be sure to problem goes away.
MPEG files can't be played in MPC-HC(don't show up player window),and games contain .mpeg movie files will freeze.
After downgraded to 9.8.0 the problem solved.
This problem happened only once, and can't be reproduced after installed 9.8.0 (upgraded to 9.9.0 won't make the problem happen)
I've once posted here, but don't sure if the problem only happens in newly installed OS,so I have deleted that post
Maybe I'll try that in virtual machine when I have enough time

Re: Problem with lav splitter
LAV Splitter wasn't used for MPEG in 9.8.0. But it was made default for a reason, it generally works better (apart from the issues in this topic) than the splitter from Microsoft. Problems will be solved.
Please test with a clean install of 9.9.0 and then with 9.9.4 update. There have been a couple of fixes in MPC-HC and LAV Filters in the past week, so it is possible that the issues are all gone now.
Which version of Windows are you using?
Which games had problems? Are those problem gone with the current install of 9.9.0?

Sorry for the delay,I have not much time to try to reproduce the problem.Admin wrote:LAV Splitter wasn't used for MPEG in 9.8.0. But it was made default for a reason, it generally works better (apart from the issues in this topic) than the splitter from Microsoft. Problems will be solved.

Here's my system info.
Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1,build 7601 32bit.
K-Lite Codec Mega 9.9.0
The OS is newly installed, and so does K-Lite.When try to playback .mpeg files.MPC-HC can't popup any player window.and game contains .mpeg file will freeze in white screen. Here's the .mpeg file http://filecloud.io/5ax6ob9t
I've mentioned before as that after down to 9.8.0,the problem solved and then reinstalled 9.9.0 the problem can't be reproduced.I'm not sure if this only happen to newly installed OS.and I haven't test that again because of lack of time

Codec Tweak Tool can't set LAV Video Decoder for H.264 in K-Lite 9.9.5Admin wrote:Problems will hopefully be gone with 9.9.5
First, tweak ffdshow as H.264 decoder, then tweak USER MERIT,then choose LAV Video as H.264 decoder.
MPC-HC will always use ffdshow as H.264 decoder rather than LAV Video.I've even tried Reset Settings in Codec Tweak Tool, but nothing happened.
I have to reinstall K-Lite 9.9.5 to get the problem solved.

Re: Problem with lav splitter
It is actually working correctly. The preferred decoder options only apply to players that use the preferred filter system (which is only present in Windows 7/8). This includes the Microsoft players and other basic players. Advanced players such as MPC-HC always select a decoder based on merit (which was standard behavior for all players in the past). This is all explained in the help file, but a more obvious warning note probably needs to be added somewhere, since most people don't read the help.
Your action of setting ffdshow as preferred enabled H.264 in ffdshow settings. Because ffdshow has a higher merit than LAV, this means that ffdshow will then continue to be used when selecting "use merit", and it will also be used in players that always select based on merit.
Preferred decoder configuration based on merits might get added in the future. It is a lot of work to add such functionality because it needs to support many different decoders in order to be fully useful.
There is no need to re-install to set LAV as decoder again. You have full control over which formats ffdshow and LAV can handle. You can specify exactly which formats both handle in their settings. You can access those settings through the shortcuts in the Start menu or through the Codec Tweak Tool.
To enable/disable a format in ffdshow:
ffdshow video decoder configuration > Codecs
To enable/disable a format in LAV:
LAV Video decoder configuration > Formats
Since ffdshow has the highest merit of the two, it is generally only needed to change the ffdshow settings. So all you need to do is disable H.264 in ffdshow again.

I've tested again on a new desktop, and restored a clean OS using Symantec Ghost 11.0.2(Ghost Image after newly installed). It seems the problem is gone in K-Lite 9.9.5

Try download youtube videos using Firefox and "Easy YouTuBe Video Downloader" addon.
If you want to split videos, you'd better try some video edit software, such as "Format Factory" or "Media Coder" ,etc.

Re: Problem with lav splitter
Another good download tool is DownloadHelper plugin for Firefox.
The audio problem you have with the downloaded files is because you used a bad download tool. Realdownloader and IDM are known to save broken files.
The splitters in the codec pack are for playback. There are not the type of splitter that cut a file in multiple parts.
