Videos show pixel blocks when using K-Lite Codec Pack with PotPlayer
My config.
Intel I5 2500K @3.3GHz, 16GB RAM
Windows 7 SP1 x64
Intel HD Graphics Driver 9.17.10.3062 (Latest as of today)
HDMI Output.
K-Lite Codec Pack 9.8.7 Full
PotPlayer 1.5.36971 Beta
Before I install K-Lite Codec Pack, I just use PotPlayer and its internal codec to play HD videos including mkv and HDTV recorded 1080i videos. All played well. No pixel blocks, corrupted colors on 1080 mkv or ts files. Though CPU utilization may be high, I can turn on using Intel QuickSync Decoder (under H264/AVC1 inside Built-in codec/DXVA settigs button to enable HW decoding to reduce CPU utilization.
Before I need to use MEGUI and some other encoding tools, I installed K-Lite Codec Pack to install external directshow filters required for them to work.
However, after I have installed K-Lite Codec Pack 9.8.5 Full + 9.8.7 update using the Normal mode default settings, when I tried to play a HDTV recorded .ts file, I found that I need to turn off Intel QuickSync Decoder for H264/AVC1; otherwise, there will be a "crash" screen.
I found two issues in PotPlayer after installing K-Lite Codec Pack,
1. When I played a HDTV recorded .ts file, there are pixel blocks during play, especailly, when I fast forward (pressing right arrow key). It did not happen before.
2. When a played certain 720p mkv file, there are pixel blocks. Besides, color loss and corrupted colors output happened. It did not happen before.
No matter which settings I tuned inside PotPlayer, I can't solve this. What's the problem behind this? Is it the issue of filters control by K-lite Codec Pack?
I need K-lite Codec Pak, but can I disable K-lite Codec pack control and just use PotPlayer intenal codec when I play videos using PotPlayer?
Please help

Re: Videos show pixel blocks when using K-Lite Codec Pack with PotPlayer
The codec pack does not change the settings of PotPlayer. So if you got its internal decoder enabled, that should still be used. Did you update the driver before or after the problem started? It may be a bug in the driver.
LAV Video decoder also offers a QuickSync HWA option. You could test if that decoder works better than the internal one. Alternatively you could try DXVA2 Copy-Back if the problem is specific to QuickSync.

Re: Videos show pixel blocks when using K-Lite Codec Pack with PotPlayer
Hi admin,
I have tried all the "Hardware decoder to use" option (None, Intel QuickSync, DVXA2 (copy-back) and DXVA2 (native)) under K-lite Codec Pack LAV Video For LAV Video option, they all produce the pixel blocks.
For the Intel HD Graphcs driver, I have already used the latest version from Intel. I will try to fall back to the Intel Display driver version which comes with the Motherboard to try.
I don't agree the codec pack does not change the settings of PotPlayer. After some trials, I found that if I unhceck "Use DXVA" option under PotPlayer, Potplayer uses intenal codec FFDShow for H264/VC1 videos. However, I cannot use the internal Intel QuickSync Decoder for H264/AVC1 videos.
If I select "Intel QuickSync Decoder" while unchecking the option "Use DXVA", when I double-click the .ts or mkv file, PotPlayer crashes with the message "An error occurred in the application" with option for you to continue, restart or close the application.
However, before installing K-lite Codec Pack, I can use Intel QuickSync Decode without using DXVA and can play the video without any pixel blocks.

Re: Videos show pixel blocks when using K-Lite Codec Pack with PotPlayer
The codec pack does NOT change the settings of PotPlayer. That is a fact. PotPlayer may show additional options because more codecs are available, but that is totally the players own doing.
The settings in LAV Video decoder only have effect if PotPlayer actually uses that decoder. I don't think it was used.
FFDShow is not an internal decoder of PotPlayer. The internal one should have a different name. Go into FFDShow options, on the Codecs page, disable H.264. Then maybe it will start using LAV Video decoder.
You should also test your files in the GraphStudioNext tool.

BTW, can you show me change K-Lite Codec Pack h264/AVC1 default from LAV to FFDShow decoder (video only)?

ffdshow video decoder configuration > Codecs > enable H.264
