Unable to control volume via HDMI

Hi

I am using a soundbar connected via HDMI. When playing a video and trying to use the volume on the player it does nothing in changing the volume, the volume is max output. Using windows volume will only disable sound when set to 0 or mute and max volume for anything 1-100.

This is for most, but not all video files. Music files seems normal behavior. If I use some other player like VLC on the same files, it behaves normal. If I change the sound from HDMI to the on board 3.5 mm jack output, it behaves normal.

I have tried to reinstall with reset settings. I've also tried with hardware and software decoding options.

What else can I try?

If you use audio passthrough, then the soundbar is doing the audio decoding, and only the soundbar can adjust volume. If you want to control volume on the computer, you need to disable passthrough. Then the audio is decoded on the computer, and audio is send to the soundbar in uncompressed format (PCM).
