How to playback MOV files?

I want to playback old MOV files I created.

So my plan was to install K-Lite Basic and disable all codecs except the MOV codec.

But The K-Lite Basic installer doesn't provide a MOV codec to select:



What am I required to select to only install the MOV codec?

There is no such things as a "MOV codec". It is a container format and it can contain a large variety of audio and video formats. So you can't make it work by installing a single thing.

It will work if you use the default settings. You can uncheck Icaros if you don't care about thumbnails.

The Basic pack contains only the bare essentials. It might look like it install a lot of things, but it is actually all the same filters, just with settings for individual formats.

I apprehend. Yet all these other codecs are in fact already installed. I just need the container format to be available. I don't want the other codecs to be installed twice on my machine.

Which codecs exactly are already installed?

That is just standard stuff from Windows. The codec pack is fully compatible with that.

I am sorry, but you clearly have little experience with codecs. You want to do something that you may think is smart, but you are just making things unnecessary difficult for yourself.

You need to enable pretty much all decoders, and "other file formats" under source filters.

Sounds good to me. You may be right.

OK, I'll install K-Lite with the options you suggest then.
