Video lag after upgrading to windows 10 Empty Video lag after upgrading to windows 10

I'm basic user with k-lite and WMP-HC. Using latest k-lite codec pack and latest Nvidia drivers. After upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10 I have video lag after around each 1-2 minutes. The video just stops for few seconds, audio continues smoothly. Usually playing mkv, avi, wmv files. Didn't have any problems before with windows XP and windows 7. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration doesn't help.

Generated list shows 2GB of RAM, but actually there is 4GB.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Windows Task Manager. Use it to monitor the CPU usage during playback. Does it show a spike when the lag occurs?

CPU utilisation during the video ~17%. Sometimes there is +-3% jumps, but it occurs randomly. There is no connection with video lag.

Test if it also happens when using a different video renderer.
MPC-HC Options > Playback > Output > select "Enhanced Video Renderer"

Is it correct that you have two screens? The second detected one has a very unusual resolution.

Yes, forgot to mention, Tv was connected through hdmi like extended display. But it doesn't change anything. I disconnect it now. All tests was also done on primary PC display. Strange resolution in generated list was because I changed size of text on secondary display to 175%. Normally its like this:

If it also happens with the standard EVR renderer, then I am afraid it might be a driver problem. Also try "Video Mixing Renderer 7 (windowed)' to be sure.

Unfortunately nothing is changing. With different renders, hardware acceleration or without, poor quality video is still lagging. Does't look like it is because of lack of performance. Probably like you said it's drivers bug. What options do I have to solve this problem?

It only happens with low quality videos?

Did you disable the integrated GPU of your Intel processor?

I mean changing renders I see big drop in quality, and is still lagging.

Can't disable integrated GPU, bios doesn't give this option, device manager shows just Nvidia GPU.

Uninstalled k-lite, installed newest Nvidia drivers (355.98-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql), played the movie through standard WMP - same problem.

Wait until Nvidia will fix it? Any ideas?

The other renderers should, under normal circumstances, give similar quality. Is the quality also lower when viewing at 100% size? Or only when the video is resized (like in fullscreen playback)? One explanation would be that a low quality resizing algorithm is used for some reason. Maybe because the 420M is a relatively weak GPU.

Did the Intel GPU show up in the device manager when you were using Windows 7? If we can get it activated, then the Intel GPU could be used for video playback.

Some things you can do:
- Check if there is a newer chipset driver for your motherboard.
- Complete remove the current graphics drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). This allows Windows to do a re-detect of the hardware and do clean and fresh install of the drivers.

You are right, poor quality is when I make it fullscreen with (Video Mixing Renderer 7 (windowed)), otherwise can't see a difference. I don't remember was intel GPU on the list in windows 7. Maybe my laptop PC (Acer Aspire 5742G) even doesn't have intel integrated GPU. After uninstalling Nvidia drivers with DDU the only display adapter was "Microsoft basic display adapter".

-Newest drivers for intel chipset is for windows 7.
-After DDU and fresh graphic driver install nothing got better.
-To my surprise, no video lag without Nvidia drivers, just with basic Microdsoft display adapter.

One option would be to continue to use the Microsoft driver until NVIDIA fixes their driver.
Another option would be to do a clean install of Windows 10. Some people have had success fixing problems that way.

You could try the old 347.25 driver (install using win 8.1 compatibility mode). Use ShutUp10 tool to disable the automatic driver updates of Win10.

-Without nvidia drivers resolution is just 1024:768, everything is a little blurry, can not use this.
-Fresh copy of windows was done straight away after upgrading to Windows 10, didn't help.
-347.25 drivers with windows 8 compatibility didn't help, still the same.

Thank you for your help. Problem delivered to NVIDIA Display Driver Feedback for Windows 10. Hope they will fix it, someday...

You should be able to adjust the resolution when using the MS driver. I have used it with 1920x1200 myself a few times.
