Access Violation' error Empty Access Violation' error

Post by idg Sat Nov 09, 2024 3:42 pm

Hi,
I have been using MPC-HC for some time and it always worked well.
Recently I am getting Access Violation' error with a software crash a few seconds after I play videos shot with my Sony A1  (I am not sure if the crashes are just with 100fps videos or regular as well).
I am on the latest MPC-HC version and using Nvidia 4070 with the studio drivers (not the latest one before as the latest seems to cause issues with Premiere).

This issue did not happen before. Suggestion for a fix?

Can you make a short test recording for me?

You can upload it to https://www.sendspace.com or some other free host such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

Hi,
The main issue is that this is inconsistent.
The next time I see it happening (it usually starts and than it happens all the time - I will record a short video and post a link.
Thanks!

To be clear, I need a file from your camera that triggers this crash, not a screen recording of it happening.

To be able to fix the crash, the developers need a way to reproduce it.

Got it.
But what I wrote still stands - I need to wait for this to happen again.

I suspect the issue is related to memory availability. 8k video frames are very large. And while allocating space for decoding frames, it needs blocks of consecutive memory. So even if there is theoretically "enough" free memory, it may fail to allocate due to memory fragmentation. The crash is of course a bug, but even if that would be fixed, decoding will most likely fail when this problem occurs.

So when it happens again, check your RAM usage.
