Blocky artefacts in shadow
Hi there, Apologies if this has been asked before or is a little too noobie for this forum, but I've struggled to find an answer to this particular problem for some time now. The blocky compression artifacts you get particularly in shadow detail in MKV files; it does my head in. Why is it always so much more pronounced on TVs rather than say my macbook? Is this a function of the screen or the graphics capabilities of the device? I've fiddled with settings on my tv but essentially the only way to reduce the presence of these blocky artifacts is to decrease settings like brightness, shadow detail and gamma to the point where the whole image suffers/is too dark. Any help would be appreciated. My TV is a samsung TU7000. Thanks

Re: Blocky artefacts in shadow
Your TV probably has a "deeper" blacklevel, which makes it better at showing difference between pure black and almost black. This of course also make unwanted details more obvious.
