How to Install K-Lite Codec Pack with the right settings ?
Hi everyone !
Can someone tell me how to install K-Lite Codec Pack the right way please ?
In the standard pack installation, I guess I must choose "install only 64 bits components" since I have Windows 10 64 bits.
But what about Software Decoding and the other options like "Install codecs only for MPC HC" ?
And I don't really know what pack to take (standard, full or mega).
A friend told me to use madVR, but I didn't see it in the options of the standard pack, and I don't know if it's the best option for a cheap laptop.

If you only need playback with MPC, then enable "Install codecs only for MPC HC".
Leave everything else at default.
madVR is not best option for laptop. That works best with powerful graphics card.

So I enable "Install codecs only for MPC HC" and "install only 64 bits components".
And "Software Decoding" is at default, yeah.
What do you think about this comment :
"What you're talking about is complete nonsense! These are never in life, the "Best settings for the Klitecodec Pack", this is nothing more than the default settings! I would take depending on the graphics card, another video renderer, for example, for AMD - Radeon always select D3DNATIVE and also, it is better to set the "mADVR" as a video presenter. Also the setting to use "Lots of Stuff" when selecting codecs would be better and x64-bit components should be installed! But there are some better settings more, such as the thumbnail service "Icaros" and the plugin "Mediainfo", which are also included in the "Klitecodec Pack", so do not tell here one of the horse, you would have years of experience, in setting the codec pack, because you can not do anything, as you can see, and tell highly competent, brute stupid nonsense shit! That can my little sister better!"
I have AMD Radeon.
And madVR is not in the standard pack according to the website anyway.

Re: How to Install K-Lite Codec Pack with the right settings ?
Why are you watching crappy videos on Youtube for advice? Those are just random idiots who know nothing.
The "default" settings are not the same on all systems. The installer is very smart and automatically enables hardware accelerated decoding on compatible systems.
madVR is not used by default because to actually get the real benefits of this renderer, you need to manually adjust its configuration. That is something for experienced users. Not for casual users with little computer experience.
"Lots of Stuff" is something I would advice against. It doesn't add anything useful, just redundant deprecated stuff that 99% of users do not need at all.

Re: How to Install K-Lite Codec Pack with the right settings ?
I was searching tutorials and best settings on Google for K-Lite Codec Pack, that's how I end up watching this video.
But I am trusting you since you are the Admin, so I am going to do what you suggested me to do.
After I finish the installation, do you think I should to do some of the settings of this tutorial for MPC-HC ?
https://cyberraidentech.blogspot.com/2020/09/media-player-classic-home-cinema-mpc-hc.html
Enable "Process priority above normal" and other settings of this tutorial are good or it's just made by another "random idiot who knows nothing" ?

A proper tutorial explains what an option does and what the benefits/disadvantages of changing it are.
Changing process priority is pointless unless you run multiple applications at the same time that fully load the CPU.

Re: How to Install K-Lite Codec Pack with the right settings ?
Hi @Admin.
I reinstalled the standard pack with the last version, and I chose the default settings during the installation and other things like desktop icon, install only 64 bits components and be notified about updates at least every week.
I have Enhanced Video Renderer (Custom Presenter), but when I finished the installation, it opened this page :
http://www.codecguide.com/configuration_tips.htm?version=1635
"You also need to use a video renderer that supports HDR. The K-Lite Codec Pack contains two renderers that are compatible with HDR: MPC Video Renderer and madVR. You can choose the renderer that MPC-HC uses during installation of the codec pack, or here after install:
MPC-HC options > Playback > Output > Video Renderer
MPC Video Renderer is easier to use and works better with lower-end GPUs. madVR has more advanced settings, but can be difficult to configure properly.".
What's the difference between MPC Video Renderer and Enhanced Video Renderer (Custom Presenter) ?
And is it true that it's better to install the pack as administrator ?
I didn't do it...

Re: How to Install K-Lite Codec Pack with the right settings ?
It is too technical to explain the differences. Just use what works good for you.
You already installed it as Administrator. It is impossible to install without having Administrator rights.
