Youtube 1080p MP4 vids without sound after downloading

It seems that Google did something to films with this quality. I downloaded all MP4 qualities of the same video (with FlashGot's media feature) and all files had sound, except 1080p.

Just FYI, DownloadHelper.net don't show the 1080p option anymore, even if you can select this quality from the official YT player. I think this might be related with this "issue"... maybe not...?

In summary, YT must had changed something with 1080p movies. No sound after downloading them, but they sound well streaming directly from the site.

If something has changed, then I am sure DownloadHelper will be updated soon.

My post's main subject is the muted 1080p MP4 files that come without sound when you download them from YT. The downloadHelper mention is just commentary.

I have done some research.

YouTube does not use standard MP4 files for their 1080p video. They use the DASH format.

From what I have read the audio and video are also stored in separate files. So that is why your downloaded files only showed video.

This Firefox extension has the ability to download both files and remux them into a new file.

I meet this problem when taking Keepvid to save 1080p YouTube videos. Is there any way to fix this? Or another way to save YouTube videos? Thanks.

Youtubemultidownloader.com also allows downloading videos with sound, they do it by using ans API and run it through GoogleVideo(YT's CDN domain). It is indeed possible to download both the video and audio in one file, directly from Google's sources due to this API.

That's a good one too. It's basically the same as youtubemultidownloader except it works without a (pretty slow) website. I imagine it uses the exact same logic by the looks of it. Hopefully this tool can also re-format audio into non-DASH. I remember having problems with .ogg audio in VP8 videos on my Android, wasn't able to be played. After a lot of messaging on XDA i found out this is due to DASH. All i had to do is take the DASH .ogg file and re-convert it to a real .ogg file using the Vorbis software.

I searched on this and finally get that "YouTube video and audio are streaming separately now rather than a single mixed file on 1080P videos and videos in higher resolutions, thus the downloaded videos from online video catching sites like keepvid will have no audios while playing back."
