Codecs for Old Games

Hi All

Just recently i installed some old games (around year 2000)
i noticed most of them don't play their FMVs and videos properly. mostly hang, black or green screen. i can hear audio but no visual. even installing RAD bink tools doesn't solve it.

however, googling for solutions i came across some posts say i need to install some old or legacy codecs for old videos.
such as ACE Mega Codecs Pack, but it's too outdated.

If anyone knowledgeable of the type of codecs in that Pack, are they included in K-Lite Mega pack? or if anyone know a good codec pack for old stuffs
i would be very appreciated.

Note: i'm currently using K-Lite Codec Pack 10.50

Which games? Details are useful for finding out which kind of audio/video formats they use.

Find the video files in the game installation folder. Open a file with the MediaInfo Lite tool. That should be able to show which video format it contains.

I suspect some of those games use the Indeo video format. Decoders for that formats are included with Windows, but in newer version they are not enabled by default. You can enable them with the Codec Tweak Tool.

For example, Metal Gear Solid 2, i checked the folder before for video files, the files are stored in .dat files. so i can't see what type of video formats it uses.

Ok, uninstalled the codec pack and restored all the settings to default then installed Mega Pack with Lot of Options
and the problem is now solved.

MediaInfo should work with any file .extension. In case of .dat you just can't right-click on it in Explorer to open MediaInfo, you need to start MediaInfo manually and open a file.
