Video shows black screen when full screen Empty Video shows black screen when full screen

Everything was working fine yesterday. Then, this morning, I installed the latest Windows 10 update. When I tried to watch a video in full screen, the screen went black. So i tried to do the obvious: I reinstalled K-lite. No change. I then tried to reinstall the the same intel and nVidia drivers (laptop) I had been using before. No change. I tried this for flv, avi, and mkv videos: same black screen Then, I'm very sorry to say, I used the "Films & TV" app that came with Windows 10 and it played the video fine in full screen.

Alienware 14 Laptop
Klite 13.5.5 and then upgraded to 13.6.0, then I fully reintalled 13.6.0
Intel HD4600 - Video_Driver_J2P6T_WN32_20.19.15.4463_A02
nVidia385.69-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql
And just to clarify, I know these drivers aren't the latest drivers. Intel tells me to use drivers released only by laptop manufacturer. For nVidia, within the last few months, one driver did not work that kept crashing my computer. I could try a new driver, but I doubt that's the problem.
And I definitely don't want to go through another Windows reinstall.

Here are more specific observations about running in full screen:
  • Videos play fine in windowed mode.
  • Upon entering full screen mode, it goes all black, but I hear sound as the video continues to play.
  • When I right-click the screen to bring up the MPC's context menu, the video reappears and continues to play.
  • When I left-click to make the context menu disappear, the video continues to play for around 4 seconds, then goes all black like before.
  • When I hit the Esc key (or Alt-Enter) to exit full screen, the video shows in its windowed form, but below the video--where should be the Seek bar, Controls, and Status--it shows a still image section of the (full screen-size) video.
  • When I open the mpc-hc64_nvo.exe program, without video, and go into full screen, the bottom Seek bar/Controls/Status are displayed as they should.
  • Also works as should with audio file playing in full screen.

I think I just found a workaround.

For the mpc-hc64_nvo.exe program, I did:
Right-click >> Properties >> Compatibility
and I checked the box for "Disable fullscreen optimizations"

And I think the problem is more to do with madVR. In my previous post, when I said that the Seeker bar and Controls showed in full screen, those are the ones native to MPC.

Does it also happen if you disable the fullscreen exclusive mode in MadVR?

Thank you. Your suggestion also works. In fact, I prefer it as it replaces madVR's seeker bar with MPC's native one in full screen.

Good to know.

Exclusive mode doesn't have any noteworthy advantages anymore on Windows 10, since HDR and 10bit output also work in Windowed mode.

to Admin,
this issue's only appearing on latest Windows 10 RS3 release, my other friends & me also facing this issue since installing Klite on RS3 , it wasn't happening with RS2 .
Please fix this issue as soon as possible .

It is most likely a bug in Windows or in the graphics driver. So they need to fix it. If I remember correctly, same thing happened with one of the previous big Win10 updates.

One workaround is to disable fullscreen exclusive mode in MadVR options.
Another workaround is to right-click on the player .exe > compatibility settings > disable fullscreen optimizations

Means that's not any sort of compatibility/bug issue from K-Lite/MPC side , right ?
For now I've disabled those options to solve the issue .

Yes, it is the fault of Windows. Similar problems exist with several games.
