MP4 File Won't Play - Too big? Empty MP4 File Won't Play - Too big?

Post by AwesomEthan Wed Apr 06, 2016 4:19 am

I have a 3.5 Gb MP4 file that I can not get to load. WMP had said there was potentially a codec issue and I started goggling it and was pointed toward K-Lite. After installing it, I now get a different error message, "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." I am a novice at the codec game and don't know if I did something wrong with K-Lite or what the issue could be. I am hoping that someone has had a similar problem that they resolved or someone with a greater understanding of my issue that can help.

Thank you!

Size should not matter. WMP uses some codecs from Microsoft by default if you use Windows 7 or newer.

Try this:
Codec Tweak Tool > Media Foundation > disable for .mp4
