Hi there!

I've upgraded recently my GPU: went from a very old 9800GT to a very new GTX 960.
Since then, I've encountered some issues with high-def videos, like this one:

Code:
Format                         : BDAV
Format/Info                    : Blu-ray Video
File size                      : 1.18 GiB
Duration                       : 4mn 17s
Overall bit rate mode          : Variable
Overall bit rate               : 39.2 Mbps
Maximum Overall bit rate       : 48.0 Mbps

Video
ID                             : 4113 (0x1011)
Menu ID                        : 1 (0x1)
Format                         : AVC
Format/Info                    : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile                 : High@L4.1
Format settings, CABAC         : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames      : 4 frames
Codec ID                       : 27
Duration                       : 4mn 18s
Bit rate mode                  : Variable
Bit rate                       : 35.3 Mbps
Maximum bit rate               : 37.0 Mbps
Width                          : 1 920 pixels
Height                         : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio           : 16:9
Frame rate                     : 29.970 fps
Color space                    : YUV
Chroma subsampling             : 4:2:0
Bit depth                      : 8 bits
Scan type                      : MBAFF
Scan order                     : Top Field First
Bits/(Pixel*Frame)             : 0.568
Stream size                    : 1.06 GiB (90%)

Audio
ID                             : 4352 (0x1100)
Menu ID                        : 1 (0x1)
Format                         : PCM
Format settings, Endianness    : Big
Format settings, Sign          : Signed
Muxing mode                    : Blu-ray
Codec ID                       : 128
Duration                       : 4mn 18s
Bit rate mode                  : Constant
Bit rate                       : 2 304 Kbps
Channel(s)                     : 2 channels
Channel positions              : Front: L R
Sampling rate                  : 48.0 KHz
Bit depth                      : 24 bits
Stream size                    : 71.1 MiB (6%)

It was working fine with the old GPU, but it's completely desynced with the new one: the video playback is slowed down and the sound (which plays fine) stops from time to time while waiting for the video to catch up. The behavior happens on most of my hi-def vids. Quite frustrating.
I thought at first it was related the new pack as I also upgraded from mega v11.6.5 to mega v11.7.0 (default setup), but the issue remains present with both versions.
The GPU drivers are up-to-date (running on Win7 x64).

Any clue?

Some things that you can try:
1) Remove all leftovers of the old card with Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Then do a fresh install of the NVIDIA driver.
2) Enable Yadif deinterlacing in LAV Video decoder.
3) Disable "Use Inverse Telecine" in NVIDIA control panel.

Did that DDU cleaning after opening the thread. Thought these days the "make a new installation" option in the nVidia setup was enough. Clearly not. Saw clear improvements on most heavy files, but still not perfect for the few heavier ones as MPC-HC CPU usage is still through the roof with that one.

Your other tricks didn't help. In fact, the default setup of your pack is what works the best.

Starting to think that this GPU is asking too much of my now rather very old CPU (C2D), despite having 8GB of RAM.
"Funny" because I don't have any issues at all with games.

Thanks anyway Smile

Before swapping the GPU you need to remove the old one from the Device manager in Windows. Otherwise some stuff get left behind. DDU cleans that up.

Have you tried enabling hardware acceleration? You can do that in LAV Video decoder settings. Select DXVA2 copy-back and enable it for H.264 and HEVC.

Yeah, I used to clean properly back in the day.
Hardware acceleration didn't help either, but...

New set of drivers (v362.00) from nVidia, K-lite v12.0.1 and dxva2 copy-back.
And now there's no more stuttering Very Happy
