Xmedia Recode crashes after installing K-Lite 10.8.0 Empty Xmedia Recode crashes after installing K-Lite 10.8.0

Hye everybody,

I am using K-Lite for years now without having a slightly problem. Thx to the developers for this great software.

But now I have a problem and I do not know where to search for the problem.

On my old PC I had Win 7 64 Bit, Office 2010 and K-Lite 10.7. installed. I used XMR portable to convert videos without any issues at all.

Last week I bought a new pc. Same software installed as the old one. Same configuration. All updates installed.

I converted one video with XMR. Everything was ok. Then I installed K-Lite 10.8.0. I configured it exactly the way I did it on my old pc. Now I am not able to convert videos with XMR anymore. To be more specific, I am not able to convert a MKV Video with x264 codec with e.g. 20 GB to a MKV file with x264 codec with 4 GB filesize. XMR crashes immediately when I start the conversion. I always get the message that libx264.dll crashes. The strange thing is that I am able to convert the same file to mp4 or m2ts and so on. But not to mkv with x264 anymore.

I do not know what do anymore. I deinstalled and installed everything again and again and tried several versions of XMR, too. But with no success. I always searched Google for the last days. Also did the fixes with the codec tweak tool.

K-Lite must have changed something. But what?

I appreciate any hint that will help me out of this mess.

Thx in advance.

XMR does not use any external codecs. So the codec pack has no effect on it at all. Your problem is caused by something else. The crash happens in the x264 encoder from XMR, so that contains a bug.

Dear Admin,

thx for your answer.

I know that XMR uses its own configuration. But I was able to reproduce the problem on another computer. On this one I used XMR to convert a mkv video file. Was successful. After that I installed KLCP and imported my settings. After that I tried to convert the same file as before. XMR crashes.

I know that KLCP is not directly responsible for this crashes. But something after the installation of KLCP or the import of my KLCP settings changes some windows settings, that causes XMR to crash.

Maybe you or anyother one has an idea what that míght be?

It does not make any changes to Windows. It only does things related to DirectShow codecs, which obviously have zero effect on XMR, because that does not use DirectShow. I am very confident that your problem is completely unrelated to the codec pack, and even any other external factors. The crash happens in an internal component of XMR.

Does the crash occur in libx264.dll again? I suspect it has some sort of memory alignment bug. Such bugs cause instability that can be very random. It can crash frequently, or almost never. You should send a bug report to the developers of XMR with a screenshot of the full crash dialog (with Fault Module Name, Exception Offset). Those details can help them pinpoint the bug.

Can you post MediaInfo details for an input file that triggers the crash?

And upload your XMR settings somewhere? (mediafire.com / datafilehost.com / sendspace.com)

Thx again for your support. Yes, the crash occurs in libx264.dll only and all the time with different versions of XMR and alway after installing KLCP. That's what is really strange about it.

The developer has been contacted three times by me the last weeks including all the information regarding the crash. But haven't heard from the developer at all.

Thx again for everything.

I have tried three movies and all started converting fine with those settings.

Are you using the latest version of XMR? I tried with 3.2.0.0 portable, which was released a few days ago. So maybe you have an older version.

Really? Are your files also original mkv files? I have those problems since the release 3.1.9.0. I tried every version since then including 3.2.0.0.

Well, I think I have to deal with it because I do not know where to search for the reason for this crashes anymore.

Thank you very much for your support.

Yes, all MKV files from around 10 GB. Are any of your crashing files publicly available through a torrent (or usenet)? Then I could try with an exact same file.

Conversion started fine with that file. I tried both default settings (just selected MKV) and your settings.

The file has a pretty long foldername and filename. Applications can sometimes fail when the total length of a file path is longer than 260 characters. So try renaming it and moving it to a different folder.
