Re: Can't seek ".WMV" files

The WMV container formats is terrible with regard to seeking. I would recommend remuxing the file into another container. Then seeking will work better.

Remuxing is easy:
1) Open Haali Muxer (included in Mega pack)
2) Right-click and choose "Add Source" and select your WMV file
3) Select an output filename. It should end with .mkv

Another thing you can do is change the preferred splitter for WMV files. You can do that with the Codec Tweak Tool. That might solve the crash and make seeking a little bit faster, but not much faster.

Hello there
thanks a lot for help,i really appreciate it,so i tried Remuxing but it's giving me error not sure why,i will try on next start up,but i changed preferred splitter option of .WMV to LAV splitter & now seeking is much better & player doesn't crash.....Thanks a lot....

also i wanted to ask if there any manuals or docs to extend knowledge about mega & tools cause it seems that they have lot of features that most users don't know about....
thanks again for guiding

Hey,i just came back after Remuxing and it works great,it gave error first cause i didn't have space on drive,Excellent , both methods work fine but Remuxing has slightly better results,,,
also i noticed that in option's menu \ internal filters \ WMV\ASF\DVR-ms ,,,, if i check this box it does same thing as selecting preferred splitter & also gives away tip that i should select same filter's for decoding.....what does that mean???.....maybe playing the file in windows media player itself???

Yes, that internal filter is the same as LAV Splitter. The tip means it recommends using LAV Video decoder for handling the video. That is already enabled by default by the pack for VC-1.
