Hello, forummates.

I've got a problem with some videos. No sound in MPC-HC, that comes with pack, but WMP plays videos as usual, with sound. I'm using Mega version 10.4.4, because codecs for video editing are required. Tried to reinstall pack. Uninstaller reported about broken codecs, i chose to fix them all. Problem seemed to be solved, but soon returned again. Tried also rename mpc-hc.exe - had no effect. Noticed, that sound missing only if plays AC-3 soundtrack. Also MPC-HC crashes after closing sometimes. My OS Win7x64 SP1. I have no clue why the sound suddenly disappeared, I did not install and did not change any settings. Problem appeared after a month of normal use pack.

Look at "Play > Filters" during playback. It should show either ffdshow or LAV audio decoder in that list.

Did you install any other software after the problem was fixed by the re-install of the codec pack?

No, I did not install any software. Ploblem appeared after 1-2 days of using package.

I remembered that 3-4 days before problem appearance i have installed update for the pack. And i reinstalled pack with the update installation second time.
Sorry, Admin, i did not notice your answer and reinstalled pack again but without an update. Everything seems to be ok. If problem will repeat again, i'll write here.

There seems to be a problem with the 32-bit DirectShow filters. A lot are missing.

Codec Tweak Tool > Fixes > Re-register Base DirectShow filters.
After that re-install the codec pack.

Did you install or use any other multimedia software just before the problem returned?

Did you disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows? That can sometimes cause weird problems. I recommend installing the codec pack (and any other software) with UAC enabled. You can disable it again afterwards.

I used XmediaRecode to convert a video, VirtualDubMod to cut a video.
UAC is enabled. I always work with user account. And the above programs did not require admin privileges, thus I cannot understand how could it "break" codecs.
Here is graphs for the video that plays without sound. As I presume, those graphs should be the same, 64bit graph is correct.

Yes, you will have to re-install.

You have to figure out what is causing this problem. Test playback more frequently after doing other things.

Something is removing entries from this Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11D0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance

I've found the reason: ACDSee Pro 6.3. It does not run without administrative rights. After the granting required rights for some reason it spoils the above registry key. Fortunately, I made ​​a backup of this key after installation and successfully recover the pack.

Sound like ACDSee is very broken.

A good alternative image viewer that I can recommend is IrfanView.
