That person is wrong and knows very little about codecs. K-Lite is better and is always a few steps ahead of other packs.

* Shark007 pack uses the same codecs (LAV Filters, ffdshow, Haali, etcetera). It does not provide any better codecs. In fact, it contains some unnecessary extra bloat that you don't want and need.
* Shark007 does not make its own codecs, nor contribute to their development. He does not even compile things himself. He just uses files created by others and repackages them. Nevertheless he likes to refer to things as "his codecs", which is total bullshit. K-Lite developers have much more knowledge about the inner workings of the various codecs, which allows for better support and optimizations.
* If you ask him for help on a subject that is a little off-topic, he will be a total asshole and will refuse to provide any help. Here you can get help for pretty much anything and get an answer/solution.
* Shark007 uses separate configuration tools for 32-bit and 64-bit. The configuration tool from K-Lite is universal and handles both. It also provides much more functionality and it even works without the pack as a standalone tool.
* K-Lite provides much more flexibility during and after installation. It has more options and tweaks. But gives a great out-of-the-box experience with default settings.
* K-Lite provides advanced problem solving functionality that is not found in other packs. This includes detection of bad and broken codecs. Detection of broken core DirectShow components. Detection of certain known broken audio/graphics drivers. And more.
* K-Lite packs work on all versions of Windows from XP to 8. It does not use stupid names that include a Windows version to attract more downloads.
* K-Lite makes it extremely easy to set MPC-HC or WMP as preferred player.

In summary, K-Lite provides at least the same functionality and user experience as other packs, but usually provides a little extra icing on the cake.

If you ever get any problem whatsoever, just come here and the problem will be solved.

Regarding the problem you posted on that other forum, that is not codec related. It an interaction problem between player and screensaver. The player should pause/unpause when screensaver activates/deactivates.
